About Us

Fireweed Veterinary Hospital is a locally owned, small animal veterinary clinic opening soon in Esquimalt. The clinic will offer full-service veterinary care, including preventative care, medical care, surgical care, dental care, behavioural care and senior pet care.

We are proud to be an accessible and values-based clinic, which means that every decision we make is based on our core values. Everyone who walks through our doors is called upon to uphold these core values and is fully welcomed into our community.

We are extremely fortunate to live and work within the Traditional Territories of the xʷsepsəm or Kosapsum (Esquimalt) Nation and Songhees Nation.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, we are privately and locally owned. Dr. Roberts, our founder and veterinarian, lives in Esquimalt. 

We haven’t opened our booking portal yet. When we open it in early October, we will send out a notification to our Client List and post it on social media, so make sure to join the list or follow us on Instagram and Facebook if you’d like to be notified.

We are primarily a cat and dog clinic. Dr. Chloe will do her best to meet community needs for other small mammals when there is no specialist available, but we do not have a specialist on staff and we aren’t equipped to see birds at the moment.  

Yes! We have three parking spots available in the lot out front of the clinic and five more under the building.

Yes! While we are starting as a small team with only one veterinarian, our space can support as many as four full-time veterinarians in the future. It’s important to us that we grow the clinic in sustainable ways that meet the needs of the community while also maintaining strong quality of care and avoiding staff burnout. Once we have established a strong foundation and community, we will begin to explore adding members to our team. 

While we aren’t accepting direct donations to our Robin Hood Fund at the moment, we are in the process of exploring the best way to accept and distribute funds. Our Robin Hood Fund helps support patients in receiving emergency veterinary care when finances become a barrier.

Esquimalt is a special and uniquely closeknit community, making it the perfect place to open a vet clinic focused on accessible, inclusive, and flexible care. While there are awesome privately owned vet clinics nearby (like Vic West Pet Hospital), Fireweed Veterinary Hospital is the only clinic located within the boundaries of Esquimalt township.

We believe that preventative care, such as annual wellness exams, vaccines and nutritional support is the best way to ensure all pets are happy and healthy.

MEDICAL CARE

 We address health concerns through a family-centered approach to ensure that each pet is getting the best treatment plan.

SKIN HEALTH & ALLERGY SUPPORT

If your pet is having skin issues, is itchy or has ear infections, they might very well have allergies and we can help!

SURGICAL CARE

We try to make all surgeries a little less scary – from the routine spays and neuters to the more unexpected and complex surgeries, we offer pre-operative guidance and detailed post-operative care instructions. Our team is highly skilled to care for your pet while they are with us for their surgery.

SENIOR PET SUPPORT

We love to support pets through their golden years and provide in-depth guidance to help you manage the changes that are to come as your pet ages.

DENTAL CARE

We understand that a healthy, pain-free mouth leads to a happy pet! Dental care is one of our priorities so please do not hesitate to ask about our oral health services.

PET FAMILY SUPPORT

We know first-hand the ups and downs that come with having a pet and we want to be there for you. Whether that is with our in-clinic counsellor or with a community partner, we want to make sure your entire pet family feels supported.

PET BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT

Our goal is for you and your pet to have a compassionate partnership and we know pet behaviour plays a huge part in this. We can offer medical and training support through our team in-clinic and our community partners.

Fireweed Community Membership

Our goal at Fireweed Veterinary Hospital is to build community and prioritize ongoing and trusting relationships between our team and your pet family. To honour this goal, we wanted to find a way by which clients feel welcomed and included in our clinic.

This is how the Fireweed Community Membership was born. Our hope with this membership is to grow our community, build trust, prioritize preventative care for all pets and increase awareness and knowledge of the veterinary profession. There is no fee associated with membership.

A Fireweed Community Member is a client who:

  • Has attended an onboarding appointment 
  • Is up to date on their pet’s annual wellness appointment 
  • Calls Fireweed their “primary vet” and has made steps to transfer all previous records of care to us 
  • Understands our mission, clinic values and expectations

A Fireweed Community Member will have access to: 

  • Wellness plans 
  • Payment plans 
  • Discounts
  • Client Education Portal (under construction)
